Swimming with the whales in Mooloolaba

One of the reasons our guests love staying with us at oceans resort is because we are located in an ideal position on Mooloolaba esplanade, just opposite the beach.

Our 5 star luxury apartments give our guests the perfect opportunity to relax and rejuvenate themselves, before they return to their busy lives. There are lots of activities in and around Mooloolaba, to keep everyone in your family happy, but one of the most popular activities during winter and spring is whale watching.

The humpback whales

With the whale watching season in full swing (August to November), you can spot these beautiful creatures from your balcony, as they make their way slowly along our coastline. Alternatively, if you like spending a few hours on the water, there are plenty of whale watching tours available in the local area, providing you and your family with the opportunity to see the whales up close.

On the other hand you might be interested in a more personal experience and if so, you can now enjoy a unique, one-on-one swim with the whales in Mooloolaba.

How to experience swimming with the humpback whales in mooloolaba

This is truly an incredible life changing experience. Get up close and personal with these majestic creatures. You will need to book your tour with sunreef and they offer both half day and a full day option.

It only takes about a 10 minute boat trip to reach the area where you are likely to find the whales, so you have plenty of time for a whale to discover you and to swim over to investigate. There won’t be more than 20 people on your boat, because Sunreef want to ensure that both you, your family and the whales are kept safe at all times.

Sunreef will supply you with a wetsuit and snorkel, but of course, you can take your own if you prefer. Everyone keeps a watch for the whales and once one is spotted, the captain positions the boat at a safe distance and you enter the water slowly in groups of ten - so you don’t overwhelm the whales and scare them away!

This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and if you want to swim with the whales in Mooloolaba, it might be safer to book your trip early, maybe even before you leave home – just to be sure of your places.

At Oceans Resort we look forward to welcoming you to your luxury accommodation on the Sunshine Coast and helping you to experience swimming with the whales in Mooloolaba.
