3. mapleton, montville, maleny

The three towns of Mapleton, Montville and Maleny are dotted along the Blackall Range. There are plenty of towns scattered throughout the hinterland but if you’re pressed for time, these three are a must. Starting at Mapleton you become fully aware that you’ve discovered something special, with generous sweeping views that take in Noosa and all the way past Bribie Island. Mapleton is a great place to start your day out, there’s a beautiful old pub, a stunning park and the impressive Mapleton Falls. Keep heading south along the range and you’ll soon discover Montville. Home to boutique shopping, more impressive views and the very special Lilly Pond park, the perfect place to take a stroll with the family or keep the kids the entertained whilst your partner is shopping. Maleny is the last stop for many travellers visiting the Sunshine Coast hinterland. Known for it’s thriving dairy industry the township is alive with colourful characters, boutique food producers and some of the best coffee the Sunshine Coast has to offer. Our advice would be to spend a half day at Maleny walking up the main street, buy a rare book and great brew from Rosetta Books, a special locally made treat at the IGA and read the first chapter down at the Obi Boardwalk entrant as you listen to the stream flowing over the shallow rocks. Perfect!
